Many automakers love to claim their vehicles are all-new, but with the 2020 Ford Explorer's redesign, it's truly something new to look forward to in the auto world. The Explorer has a few changes on the outside and feels a whole lot better to drive from the inside. We're going to take a closer look at what you can expect from the 2020 Explorer.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The redesigned Ford Explorer features two new trims for the 2020 lineup which are the ST and the Hybrid. Other trims in the lineup include the XLT, Limited, and Platinum. With the new ST trim, you'll get a sporty, athletic look and to round out its appeal, it comes with unique ST badging. On the Platinum trim, you can feel safe driving at night with standard adaptive headlamps. The available Michelin self-sealing tires mean you won't have to get out and change a flat very often.
Engine (Power)
The first engine option for the Explorer is a 2.3-liter inline-4 turbo that will give you 300 horsepower. If you want a little more power than that, the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 that puts out 365 horsepower might be for you. For the Hybrid trim there is a drivetrain that uses a 3.3-liter V-6 along with a single 44 horsepower electric motor. All engines are paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
To maximize the Explorer's performance and design it comes equipped with all-new rear-wheel drive. This allows for improved on- and off-road capability, as well as increased towing capacity. When properly equipped, your Ford Explorer can tow an impressive 5,600 pounds. With trailer sway control as a standard feature, you'll have increased control over breaking, to maintain control when towing. An all-new terrain management system allows you to select from seven different drive modes, including normal, trail, deep snow/sand, slippery, sport, tow/haul, and eco.
Interior
In the 2020 Explorer, you'll be ready for any adventure with all the smart and capable technology features Ford has equipped. Features such as Sync 3 and FordPass will keep you connected no matter where the road takes you. Use the Ford+Alexa feature to link up your smart device to voice navigation, traffic information, and your smart-home devices. An available wireless charger lets you keep your phone or device charged when you're away from home.
Safety Features
With your safety in mind, Ford has designed the new Explorer with lots of the great features you're going to love. An available 360-degree camera with split-view uses cameras placed on the grille, liftgate, and under each of the side view mirrors to enable you to see all around your vehicle. When backing out of the driveway, you'll appreciate the available reverse brake assist which alerts you if something is back there that you can't see.
